Gadar 2 box office collection day 6: Sunny Deol film becomes the second-highest grosser of the year, crosses The Kerala Story’s lifetime haul in less than a week
Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel-starrer Gadar 2 made a historic Rs 55.40 crore on the Independence Day holiday. But on its sixth day in theatres, a working Wednesday, the film managed to mint Rs 34.50 crore at the box office, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. This takes Gadar 2’s total domestic nett collection to Rs 263.48 crore. The film had an occupancy of 56.09% on Wednesday.
Gadar 2 was released on August 11 and started its box office journey with Rs 40.1 crore on opening day. The film has been performing exceedingly well at the cinemas despite competition from OMG 2, which was released on the same day, and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, which had been performing well since its July 28 release.
While the film is still in its first week in theatres, it has already become the second-highest domestic grosser of the year, after Pathaan. The Shah Rukh Khan film made Rs 543.05 crore in India, as per Bollywood Hungama. Gadar 2, directed by Anil Sharma, has already crossed The Kerala Story’s lifetime collection of Rs 242.20 crore.
Gadar 2 is the sequel to the 2001 hit Gadar, which was one of the highest grossers of that year. Back in 2001, Gadar released against Lagaan, and both films did exceedingly well at the box office. While Gadar was the bigger moneymaker in India, Lagaan gained international acclaim and earned a nomination at the Academy Awards.
At the press conference celebrating the success of Gadar 2, Sunny Deol said that he would be making “good films” like Gadar 2. “I promise all my fans that I’m only going to make good films like these. They say films for ‘masses’. What do you mean by that word? Public is public and that means everyone,” he said.
